Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, a tertiary care facility located on the north side of Chicago, is the primary Level 1 Trauma Center for this area. There are 1,600 trauma admissions per year. The mix is 78% blunt, 22% penetrating. We have approximately 300 beds, including 20-bed state of the art Surgical Intensive Care Unit to accommodate critically injured patients. Our resources include consultant availability, neurosurgery, orthopedic, cardiovascular and maxillofacial services.
The Trauma / Critical Care Service currently has three full-time attending surgeons, who are Board certified in general surgery and have added qualifications in surgical critical care. The Service is an independent resident service with a full complement of senior and junior residents, and medical students. We also work with the residency programs of the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia.
